I'm Shaun. I build things that turn data into decisions.

By background I'm a wagering industry professional and in fact I spent pretty much all my working life in that space. I was lucky enough to undertake a wide range of roles including odds compilation, risk management, marketing, fraud investigation and general management.

Unfortunately, a redundancy in 2023 tossed me to the scrapheap and I haven't worked fulltime since, despite way too many job applications. These days I am semi-retired and have turned my attention to home schooling my neuro-divergent daughter and in my spare time I indulge my love of numbers, spreadsheets and more recently artificial intelligence (AI), which has opened up a wide range of new capabilities for me in the areas of data gathering, coding and analytical models.

A couple of examples of things I am up to these days include:

• SavvyPlays is a multi-sport analytics platform covering NRL, NFL, cricket, baseball, golf, and major tournaments including the FIFA World Cup. Every prediction is published before kickoff, graded after the final whistle, and the scorecard stays up whether it's flattering or not. The NRL model (PCS) picks winners at 68 per cent across twenty seasons of data. The World Cup pipeline called 35 of 48 group positions and all four semi-finalists. The models that don't work get shelved and said so publicly.
• SuburbCheck is a national suburb comparison platform scoring 14,643 Australian suburbs across ten dimensions. It started as a personal project to answer a simple question with data instead of anecdote: where should you live? It now serves migration reports, interactive weighted search, and paid comparison analysis.

I'm based in Australia. I work mostly in Python, PostgreSQL, and Next.js, and I deploy to servers that run cron jobs at odd hours so I don't have to. Everything on this site was built, tested, and graded in public.
